Açıklama
The City of Reykjavík already pays the contractor that runs the basic parking payment system, the part that really matters. Everything else (private apps and service charges on top of the city's fees) is a city decision, not a technical necessity.
Rósa Parks is an open source, non-profit software that proves in practice that the city could design and operate the interface itself, instead of outsourcing it to private parties like EasyPark and Parka that charge residents service fees. The parking fees themselves flow undiminished to the city; no middleman profits.
Important
This app is an independent project of the cooperative Samtaks svf. It is neither operated by, in collaboration with, nor licensed by the City of Reykjavík, the Reykjavík Parking Fund, or any other public institution. Payments through Rósa Parks are only considered a sample until the city provides a formal backend connection.
What the app does
• Shows toll zones and pricing on a map, based on public data from the City of Reykjavík. Original sources:

• Allows you to start and end a parking session by entering a license plate number (sample, not related to official billing)
• Shows time and cost in real time
• Keeps track of active sessions and recently completed sessions
What the app doesn't do
• No ads
• No analytics or measurement systems (neither Google Analytics nor Sentry); the app only sends crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics) so that errors can be fixed
• No other third-party software development kits (SDKs)
• No user account, no registration and no sharing between devices
• No selling or sharing of data to advertisers or other third parties
Purpose of the project
Rósa Parks is neither a startup nor a commercial product. There is good will behind the project: Samtak svf. wants to point out the absurdity of the current arrangement and show in black and white that a parking app without a service charge is technically simple to implement. Private parties that collect a service charge on top of the fees that citizens already pay to the city: it is a choice, not a technical necessity.

Privacy
A detailed privacy policy can be found at https://samtak.is/personuvernd/rosaparks. In short: No ads and no analytics, only crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics) to fix bugs, and no sharing of email addresses or license plates to third parties.
