SuPia
SuPia is for owners of residential renewable energy installations — rooftop solar panels, small wind turbines, and other distributed generation systems. This app will build a network for the owners, connecting them and recognizing their contributions to export the renewable energy to the grid.

These owners export surplus electricity to the grid every day, yet they are not fairly rewarded for their contributions in terms of decarbonization of the grid. 1) Across the world, the rates that owners receive for their exported renewable electricity continue to fall, widening the gap between what they pay for electricity and what they are compensated for their contributions. 2) In the renewable energy industry, there is something called Unbundled Energy Attribute Certificates. These certificates are issued to recognize the export of renewable electricity to the grid and can be traded for profits.

While it is understandable that individual homeowners remain outside this system due to the small volume of their exports, which makes administrative and transaction costs prohibitive, their contributions to decarbonizing the grid deserve recognition through other means. SuPia is here to give owners the recognition they deserve by creating a renewable energy network built around their contributions. We believe this network will drive even greater contributions to decarbonizing the grid.

Using SuPia is straightforward. Owners begin by registering their renewable energy installation — simply take a photo of your installation through the app, and your location is automatically recorded for verification. Next, photograph your meter readings between a start and end date to document your export electricity over that period. Finally, submit your export electricity statement for verification. Once verified, your export electricity is permanently recorded as your personal contribution to decarbonizing the grid — a record that grows with every submission you make.

SuPia goes beyond individual recognition. The app aggregates verified export electricity data at a community level, allowing owners to see the collective contribution their neighborhood, city, or region is making to decarbonize the grid. What was once invisible — the combined clean energy output of thousands of individual households — becomes visible, measurable, and compelling.

Together, communities can see exactly how much renewable electricity they are exporting to the grid, turning individual efforts into a shared and growing story of decarbonization. And as that story grows, owners may find that their contributions are worth more than they ever imagined.
