In 2008, the "International Roguelike Development Conference" defined the "Berlin Criteria" of various elements that a Roguelike game should have.
Berlin Principle: A roguelike game must have the following main elements:

1.Randomly generated environment: The game environment should be randomly generated, and the locations of monsters, props and other environmental elements should also be randomly generated. (Monster props are random)
2.Permadeath: The game world will be completely reset after the player's character dies. (You can be resurrected once after death, and the progress of the cleared level will be retained)
3.Turn-based: As the name suggests, the game will not progress automatically when the player does not operate the character. (In real-time mode, you can consume physical energy to clear the level on idle, but the idle strategy is relatively simple. If you need to challenge the highest level, manual operation is still recommended)
4.Map exploration: Players need to obtain special props and more resources by exploring new areas on the map (the implicit meaning is that standing still cannot continue the game or requires consuming resources, and new areas will not appear in the explored areas. H). (The further the levels go, the better the drops will be)
5.Complexity: Players can achieve the game's goals in many different ways. (You can choose different skills to pass the level)
Resource management: Players can and must use the limited resources they have rationally. (Diamonds, physical strength, gold coins)

The rigid Berlin Criteria makes many developers dissatisfied, and if this standard is really followed, many games that have been improved on the basis of "Rogue" are not worthy of being called "Roguelike". As a result, many developers began to call their works "Roguelite" games, which means lighter imitations of "Rogue".
In fact, even now, there is no generally accepted clear standard for judging whether a game is a roguelike or a roguelite. It mainly depends on the perspective of the person who evaluates the game.
