Spades is a very popular trick-taking game played by two partnerships.
The objective of spades is to take at least the number of tricks (also known as "books") that were bid before play of the hand began.
Spades is one of the better trick taking games for partnerships, and another classic after being invented and popularized in the USA in the 1930s.
Spades are always the trumps, and players bid how many tricks they think they will win in advance. Other suits have no intrinsic value during play, but a card of the suit led in the current trick will beat a card of any other suit except a Spade.
Although the bidding and scoring is not the easiest if you are new to trick-taking games, it is a game that allows for more skill than casual games.
