Əslində burada oturmaq üçün istifadə edilən kürsidən söhbət getmir; çünki Allah cism deyil və oturmaq üçün vasitəyə ehtiyacı yoxdur. Ayədəki “kürsi” ifadəsi Allahın qüdrət və hökmranlığının, elminin simvolu kimi işlədilib. Ümumiyyətlə, ayətül-kürsi Allah-təalanın böyüklüyünü, əzəmətini nümayiş etdirən, Onun bəzi sifətlərini açıqlayan ən bariz ayələrdən biridir.
Bəzən Bəqərə surəsinin 256-cı və 257-ci ayələrini də bura əlavə edir və hər üç ayəni birlikdə ayətül-kürsi adlandırırlar.
İslam ənənəsində ayətül-kürsidən bir çox çətinliyi aradan qaldırmaq məqsədilə istifadə edilir. Bu, ən müxtəlif mənəvi, psixoloji, maddi problemləri həll etmək üçün universal vasitədir. Xəstəliklərdən şəfa tapmaq, insanların və cinlərin şərindən amanda qalmaq, kasıblıqdan qurtarmaq və ruzini artırmaq, çətin işi həll etmək, qorxunu aradan qaldırmaq, günahları bağışlatmaq və sairə məq-sədlər üçün ayətül-kürsini oxuyurlar.
Həzrət Mühəmməd Peyğəmbər (s) ayətül-kürsini “Quranın ən əzəmətli ayəsi” adlandırmışdı. O, buyurub ki, ayətül-kürsi oxunan evə 30 gün ərzində İblis girə bilməz, o ev 40 gün sehrdən amanda qalar. Peyğəmbər Əli ibn Əbu Talibə (ə) buyurmuşdu: “Quranın ağası Bəqərə surəsidir, Bəqərə surəsinin ağası isə ayətül-kürsidir. Ya Əli! Bu ayədə 50 söz var, hər sözdə isə 50 bərəkət var” (Bəqərə surəsinin 255-ci ayəsində «və» bağlayıcısını çıxmaq şərti ilə 50 kəlmə mövcuddur).
Namazlardan sonra ayətül-kürsini oxumaq hədislərdə tövsiyə edilib. Rəvayətə görə, Peyğəmbər yatmazdan əvvəl ayətül-kürsi oxuyardı. Səfərə çıxmağa hazırlaşan adamın da ayətül-kürsi oxuması məsləhətdir. İmam Mühəmməd Baqir (ə) buyurub ki, ayətül-kürsini bir dəfə oxuyan adamın bu dünyadakı min dərdi və axirətdəki min çətinliyi aradan qalxar. Bu dünyadakı dərdlərin ən yüngülü – kasıblıq, axirətdəki çətinliklərin ən yüngülü isə qəbir əzabıdır. Əlbəttə, deyilən faydaları əldə etmək üçün ayəni səmimiyyət və ixlasla oxumaq, mənası barədə düşünmək və Allaha təvəkkül etmək əsas şərtdir.
