The Programme is designed to assist non-native Chinese speaking learners in establishing a foundation for learning Chinese. The curriculum aims at developing learners' communicative competency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing with a natural integration of vocabulary, grammar, and language functions.

The curriculum is developed to the standards for 《欢乐伙伴》International Edition, with reference to HSK Chinese Proficiency Test, YCT, Scheme for the Chinese Phonetic Alphabet, as well as the programme specifications. The overall and specific curriculum designs are fine-tuned by second language teaching experiences. The curriculum is structured in a progressive and spiral manner with an emphasis on developing listening and speaking skills, followed by reading and writing skills. It helps learners master basic Chinese structure and functions with a focus on their communicative competency in a wide variety of situations.

The content is delivered in a structured, scientific, and practical manner, using rhyme teaching, contextual practices and other engaging forms to enhance learners' perception and memory of Chinese words in order to construct a comprehensive Chinese language usage system.
In order to meet the needs of Chinese as a second language learners and to address the characteristics of Chinese language learning, the curriculum emphasizes the training of learners in listening and speaking skills. Spiral and progressive approaches are employed to enhance vocabulary building and communication skills for a variety of topics and discourse scenarios. The curriculum also focuses on advancing learners' literacy and writing skills, with a focus on reading and writing Simple Characters and reading Common Characters. Emphasis is placed on systematic and practical vocabulary building to maximize the learning outcome of beginners in Chinese.
