Təcvid Qurani-Kərimin ərəb dilinin qayda-qanunlarına müvafiq surətdə oxunmasını öyrədən bir elmdir.Təcvidin əsas məqsədi Qurani-Kərimi oxuyan zaman hər bir səsi (hərfi) öz məxrəcində tələffüz etmək,düzgün tələffüz (orfeopiya) və qiraət qaydalarına (mədd,qəsr,vəsl,vəqf,səktə,imalə və s.) riayət etməkdir.
Quranı düzgün oxuyanın Allah yanında böyük savabı,səhf oxuyanın isə cəzası vardır.Buna görədə Qurani-Kərimi oxumağa girişən şəxs mütləq təcvid qaydalarını öyrənməli,qiraət zamanı onları yerli-yerinə tətbiq edə bilməlidir. Bunun mənası odur ki,qiraət həm ləhni-cəlidən (ərəb dini bilən hər hansı bir kimsənin anlaya biləcəyi xətalardan) həmdə ləhni-xəfidən (yalnız Quran və qiraət mütəxəsislərinin başa düşəcəyi xətalardan) xali olmalıdır. Belə olduğu təqdirdə qiraət həm oxuyanın özünə, həmdə dinləyənə zövq verir.
