Audio-Mapa PW
The Audio-Map of Warsaw University of Technology is an innovative solution serving as an electronic equivalent of tactile maps (tactile maps) for the blind and visually impaired to assist in moving around selected buildings of Warsaw University of Technology (didactic buildings). The user can choose between two modes of operation - map viewing mode and learning mode. The former helps in selecting the area of interest. It can also be used by assistants for the blind or visually impaired, or those asked for support while on the road. The second mode allows wandering a finger around the rooms and at the same time voice-reading information about their number, and type, reading the names of the PoI touched and also reading the content of geo-descriptions: area, zone, location, and warning. The application tells which application button was touched by a blind person and can interact with smartphones' built-in screen readers. In addition, a QR code and NFC code reader are built into the app, allowing some buildings to locate the user precisely. It is assumed that for this feature to be useful it is necessary to place the codes in a fixed location (near the door handle) on every door in the building, for the code to be easily accessible. In the first version of the application, QR codes are available at the PW Main Building.
