Περιγραφή
The Club Santos Laguna S.A. of C.V. better known as Santos Laguna or simply Santos, is a professional soccer club based in Torreón, Coahuila, Mexico. It was officially registered on September 4, 1983 by the Mexican Social Security Institute of the State of Durango under the name "Club Santos IMSS".
It has participated in the highest category of the Mexican Soccer League, the First Division of Mexico, since the 1988-89 season, being one of the seven teams in the current division of honor that has never been relegated.
It belongs to the Mexican Football Federation at the national level, to the Confederation of North American, Central American and Caribbean Football at the continental level and to the International Federation of Association Football at the world level. It is the third soccer club that was founded in the metropolitan area of La Laguna and Coahuila, after the extinction of the teams Club de Fútbol Laguna and Club de Fútbol Torreón.
Since its foundation in 1983, its main venue was the Corona Stadium until 2009 when it moved to the New Corona Stadium, which has a capacity for 30,000 spectators and is located within the Santos Modelo Territory. Since its inception, the colors that have identified the club are green and white, drawn from the extinct and precursor clubs of C.F. Laguna and C.F. Torreón.
The first seasons in the first division were difficult for the club, which was close to relegation on more than one occasion. It was in the 1993-94 season when the sporting successes began and he managed to reach the final where he lost to Tecos from the UAG. The club has achieved eight official national titles: six Leagues, one Cup and one Champion of Champions. The first league title was won in 1996, the following championships were won in 2001, 2008, 2012, 2015 and 2018, the cup championship in 2014 and the champion of champions in 2015. It is the fifth most successful team in the history of the league along with Pachuca and Tigres. In international competitions, they have only obtained two runners-up finishes in the Concacaf Champions League.
According to the International Federation of Football History and Statistics, it is the fourth best club of the 21st century in the Concacaf zone and the sixth Concacaf team of the first decade of the 21st century.
