In fünf Sprachen – deutsch, englisch, französisch, niederländisch und tschechisch – begleitet die App die Besucher durch die Ausstellung, erzählt „glasklare“ Geschichten und gibt überraschende Antworten auf viele Fragen, wie z.B.:
Welche Art von Glas wurde von welchen Handwerkern für welche Kunden innerhalb der letzten 400 Jahre in Böhmen produziert? Was hat Graf Kinsky mit böhmischem Glas zu tun? Wer waren die Heimtragefrauen und warum brauchte man sie unbedingt für den reibungslosen Ablauf von Glasproduktion und -veredlung?
Über die Biografien von acht Persönlichkeiten, die eine Schlüsselrolle in der Geschichte des böhmischen Glases gespielt haben, bekommt man einen neuen, persönlichen Zugang zur Geschichte der Glasveredelung. Der Graveur und Glashändler Franz Georg Kreybich aus Steinschönau, den um 1700 seine über 30 Verkaufsreisen in viele Regionen Europas, darunter Moskau, London, Konstantinopel (das heutige Istanbul) und nach Siebenbürgen geführt haben, ist ebenso dabei wie der Unternehmer und vielseitige Erfinder Friedrich Egermann oder der meisterliche Glasmaler Alfred Strobach.
Rheinbach wird auch die „Stadt des Glases“ genannt. Nach dem zweiten Weltkrieg siedelten sich hier sudetendeutsche Glaskünstler und Glasmacher aus Böhmen an. Sie gründeten eine Glasfachschule und prägten die Glasszene und das kulturelle Leben in Rheinbach. Das 1968 gegründete Glasmuseum Rheinbach zeigt im historischen Himmeroder Hof eine einzigartige Auswahl an Glasobjekten vom Barock mit typischen, punkvollen Veredelungen bis hin zum modernen, internationalen Studioglas mit individueller und freier Formensprache.
Im Museumsshop präsentieren sich Rheinbacher Glasgestalter mit einem großen Sortiment an gläsernen Geschenkartikeln – von gesandstrahlten, gravierten oder bemalten Windlichten über mundgeblasene Vasen und Schalen in der Technik der Glasverschmelzung bis hin zu Kabinettscheiben, Glasskulpturen, Schmuck und Saisonartikeln.
Das Glasmuseum ist im Himmeroder Hof, Himmeroder Wall 6, in 53359 Rheinbach, zu Hause. Vor Ort befinden sich auch das Römerkanal-Infocenter, das Naturparkzentrum und das Kulturzentrum Rheinbach, die in der App vorgestellt werden.
