Jahr für Jahr machen Frauen seither weltweit ab dem 25. November bis zum 10. Dezember mit orangen Aktionen auf das Problem und seine verheerenden Auswirkungen aufmerksam. Der Zeitraum ist bewusst gewählt: So hat die Generalversammlung der Vereinten Nationen den 25. November als Tag zur Beseitigung von Gewalt gegen Frauen ausgerufen. Der 10. Dezember wurde von den Vereinten Nationen zum Tag der Menschenrechte deklariert.
Um in diesem Jahr Strom und Energie zu sparen, gibt es keine von uns initiierte, orange Beleuchtungen von Gebäuden, Orten und mehr. Wir haben uns, als ein Beitrag unter anderen, für diese Form des gemeinsamen Hinweisens auf dieses unsägliche weltweite Problem entschieden.
In Köln hatten die beiden Kölner Zonta Clubs 2019 die erste Beleuchtungsaktion zum 25. November unter dem Motto „Orange Your City“ initiiert. Seit 2020 finden der Aufruf und die Aktionen koordiniert vom Amt für Gleichstellung von Frauen und Männern der Stadt Köln statt, in Kooperation mit den Kölner Zonta Clubs, den Kölner Soroptimistinnen und den Mitgliedern des Arbeitskreises „Gegen Gewalt an Frauen“.
