Il suo utilizzo permette ai bambini, e in particolare a quelli che frequentano le prime classi della Scuola Primaria, di apprendere in modo corretto e di esercitare il riconoscimento della struttura sillabica delle parole, ottenendo importanti risultati nell’incremento della velocità e della correttezza della lettura.
Gli esercizi possono essere utili anche ai bambini più grandi e ai ragazzi, per migliorare la velocità di lettura e per affrontare specifiche difficoltà in ortografia (parole con le doppie, gruppi consonantici complessi, ecc.).
Sillabando è stata ideata e testata in ambito logopedico: gli esercizi che propone sono indicati anche in caso di DSA.
Negli esercizi, ogni elemento di una lista di parole è suddiviso nelle sue componenti sillabiche, che vengono proposte in ordine casuale e con tempi di persistenza definiti. Ciascuna sillaba appare sullo schermo, resta visibile per il tempo stabilito e poi sparisce. I tempi di persistenza diminuiscono con il procedere degli esercizi. Alla presentazione segue la risposta, che consiste nella scrittura dell’elemento che è stato mostrato e poi nascosto. La scrittura permette all’App di valutare la correttezza della risposta e nello stesso tempo costituisce un allenamento per il bambino, che oltre a ricordare la sillaba appena vista, deve eseguirne l’analisi fonemica. Dopo aver completato la lettura in sillabe, ogni esercizio prosegue presentando le parole intere, sempre con persistenza prefissata e risposte scritte. L’App contiene oltre 80 esercizi già pronti, ordinati in un percorso di difficoltà crescente, ma eseguibili anche liberamente. Ciascun esercizio è suddiviso in più livelli e utilizza una lista di parole con caratteristiche adatte ad allenare specifiche abilità. Gli esercizi di Sillabando sono dedicati a diverse aree di utilizzo:
- apprendimento base delle abilità di lettura sillabica, per i bambini che hanno appena imparato a leggere e scrivere;
- ortografia, con liste di parole realizzate per affrontare specifiche criticità della lettura e della scrittura, come ad esempio parole con consonanti doppie, sillabe contenenti la lettera “H” e così via;
- lettura veloce, per migliorare il riconoscimento rapido anche di parole “difficili”.
Una serie di brevi animazioni permette, se utilizzata, di sottolineare in modo scherzoso successi ed errori di lettura. Tra le impostazioni aggiuntive, l’utilizzo di un puntatore (per catturare l’attenzione del lettore) e il mascheramento percettivo, che permette di ridurre l’effetto di persistenza retinica dello stimolo visivo. Ciascun livello degli esercizi ha una percentuale massima di errori accettabile: se non viene terminato almeno con la precisione impostata, il livello viene riproposto di nuovo.
L'App favorisce il rapido superamento della "fase alfabetica" durante l'apprendimento delle basi della lettura.
