By age 10 many young people know the times table for the numbers 1,...,10 and also know the perfect squares:
0, 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, 64, 81, 100.
The square root of any such perfect square is the number whose product with itself yields the perfect square. For example,
the square root of 64 is 8, since 8 x 8 = 64.
