描述
Bij twijfel kan je gebruik maken van deze app, om op basis van eenvoudige vragen een eerste inschatting te maken over het verdachte materiaal waar je mee te maken hebt. De app biedt tevens richtlijnen welke stappen er verder moeten genomen worden als er een vermoeden is dat een toepassing asbesthoudend is.
Asbest is een verzamelnaam voor een groep natuurlijke materialen (vezelachtige silicaten) die vanwege hun uitzonderlijke eigenschappen in het verleden vaak werden gebruikt. Asbest brengt talrijke gezondheidsrisico’s met zich mee, zeker wanneer deze vezels vrijkomen en worden ingeademd. Symptomen worden pas na lange tijd, 30 tot 40 jaar, zichtbaar.
Het risico voor inademing van asbestvezels hangt af van de mate waarin de vezels gebonden zijn met andere materialen. Daarom mag je asbesthoudend materiaal nooit breken of beschadigen.
Alhoewel de risico’s voor blootstelling aan asbest dezelfde zijn, maakt de wetgeving een onderscheid over te nemen stappen naargelang het gaat over een asbesttoepassing in een privé, dan wel in een professionele context . De app behandelt dan deze twee verschillende situaties.
Opgelet: deze app is een hulpmiddel en kan nooit volledig uitsluitsel bieden. Met het blote oog valt asbest nooit met 100 % zekerheid te identificeren. Daarvoor zijn tests nodig door een erkend laboratorium. Blijf dan ook steeds voorzichtig en roep indien nodig de hulp in van een professional!
