你需要做的事情就是按重要性、紧急程度分配到四个象限里：重要紧急、重要不紧急、紧急不重要、不重要不紧急。
1、重要：对个人成就影响很大的事情或目标；
2、紧急：需要立即做出响应，不能拖延的事情。
重要紧急：
此象限位于左上角，用于放置需要立即关注的事情，忽略他们将会带来很大的麻烦。比如为马上要开的重要会议准备材料，它很紧急，因为你没有太多时间做准备，它很重要，因为你必须要在会议开始之前准备妥当。
这个象限的事情越少越好，如果变多了，大多数时候是因为重要不紧急的事情没有处理好。
开始工作之前，首先就是找出既重要又紧急的事情，优先处理。
重要不紧急：
此象限位于右上角，放置那些与长期目标有关的工作，它们需要你经常关注，只是没有明确的截止时间。比如发掘新的机会，规划职业生涯，防患于未然等。
做好这个象限的事情，通常会避免一些工作落入重要紧急的象限内，可以做到忙碌但不盲目。
紧急不重要：
此象限位于右下角，放置那些很紧急但只需花很少时间可以完成的事情，它们通常是忙碌且盲目的。这些事情可以集中在一段固定的时间内完成，最好是放权交给别人去做。
比如不速之客的来访，临时安排的工作，不必要的问题回复等。
不紧急不重要：
此象限位于右下角，放置那些花费时间又不产生任何成果的事情。为了使时间使用的更加高效，这些事情尽量不做。
比如可做可不做的杂事、不必要的应酬、打游戏、无目的的浏览网页等，偶尔可以放松，但绝不能沉迷于此。
