The map is great at telling stories, such as how big or small things are. This often depends on what we relate them to. We often hear of features being a certain size or about the scale of natural events without getting a real sense of how large or small it is. With MapScale you can show scale using an overlay of a defined size and shape or put two locations side by side at the same scale. The purpose is simply to put size into perspective.
