Description
Most usage meters show a percentage. That tells you how much you've spent, not whether you're spending too fast. BurnCast shows your pace instead: tokens used against time elapsed, as a single number. Above 1.0×, you run out before the reset. Below it, you have room to spare.
WHAT IT SHOWS
• Your pace, at a glance. One number in the menu bar, updated as you work. Click it for the full picture.
• Which limit you'll hit first. Your plan has a 5-hour session limit, a weekly limit, and on Claude a separate weekly limit for Opus. BurnCast tracks them all and tells you which one is actually the problem.
• Where your week is heading. It learns what each weekday usually costs you and forecasts where you'll finish. When the forecast is uncertain, it shows a range rather than a false-precision number.
• What to change. If you're on track to run out, BurnCast compares your options (switch models, lower effort, close a parallel session) and recommends the smallest change that gets you to the reset. If nothing will, it says so.
• Warnings with time to act. Alerts escalate as your pace climbs, so you hear about a problem while you can still fix it.
• Both accounts, side by side. Claude Code and Codex are metered separately: each keeps its own limits, reset clock, history, and notifications. Use one or both.
PRIVACY
BurnCast contains no networking code. There is no account, no telemetry, no analytics, and no update check. Nothing leaves your Mac.
It never reads your prompts or your code. The parser takes token counts, timestamps, model names, the folder each session ran in, and the short name Claude Code writes to label a session, which is what the app calls that session on screen, and skips message content entirely.
On first launch, BurnCast asks you to choose your Claude Code or Codex folder in the standard macOS folder picker. That is the only access it requests, and every grant is narrowed before it is stored: Codex to the sessions folder, so the app cannot reach your credentials, and Claude Code to the .claude folder or the projects folder inside it. Anything wider is declined. Notifications are asked for only when there is a warning to show, and opening at login is off until you turn it on. The one file it ever writes is settings.json, and only if you choose to install the optional usage helper. That file is backed up first, and the change is reversible from Settings. You can revoke access at any time.

What's new
- Version: 1.0.254
- Last Updated:
- Optional two accounts on one meter. Claude Code and Codex can now share a single menu bar item, each marked by its own shape and colour, and the pair takes less room than one meter did.
Sessions now have names. The session panel now shows the name Claude Code gives each session, so a row says what it was for, not just which project it ran in. Much more user-friendly.
The burn rate on the "This Session" screen now matches the chart under it. The tile shows the burn rate for the latest ten minutes and is labelled with that time, for example 6:15 to 6:25 PM, so you can see exactly which bar the number came from.
The token mix, explained. A ring shows what this window's tokens cost and two sentences explain the breakdown.
The five heaviest sessions are always on screen, each with a small meter for its share of the five-hour cap.
The Setup screen now shows you a visual depiction of the menu bar before you choose it. The settings screen now more closely resembles the app's theme and controls. Done button added.
Also fixed:
- The popover's recommendation stayed quiet when two model tiers ran side by side
- Cache rebuilds were sometimes counted as additions
- Tooltips and spacing on the session table are improved
