If you’re tired of co-workers sharing Dropbox, Google Drive, Box or OneDrive links that require you to view & open them in a web browser, and would prefer to open the file you already have synced on your local computer in the native application, using BlueLink will be a welcome change.
NOTE: Sharing links with others requires that they also have BlueLink installed on their Mac, and users must be using the local client for the Cloud Storage provider, such that the file is available in your Finder.
Features:
- Create links when right-clicking on a file or folder in the Finder, under the Services contextual menu
- Menubar app, so no UI window that has to stay open or be in the Dock
- Configure which Cloud Storage Services you want to work with (currently Dropbox, OneDrive, Box, GoogleDrive)
- Links will either Open the file in your native app, or will Select the file in the Finder, or it can do both
- No authentication or accounts needed, works with locally installed Cloud Storage provider's native clients
- Create links to any file on your computer for your own easy use in any application
- Notifications in System Notifications when links are created (configurable through System Settings)
Created links use the Pasteboard format, and are saved as plain-text, RTF, and HTML. This allows the display value to be human readable, while the actual URL will have the spaces and special characters encoded so it's a valid URL.
BlueLink will register the custom scheme bluelink:// on your computer, so that it will automatically recognize and act-on any link that starts with bluelink://. The format of a BlueLink created link for a Dropbox file will look like: bluelink://dropbox/Marketing/StyleSheet.pdf. BlueLinks for local files on your computer, not in a Cloud Storage Service, will take the format similar to: bluelink://local/Documents/Designs/address.csv.
The RTF and HTML links will only display the File or Folder name, but the full path will be stored in the link.
