MarkView – Markdown Viewer
MarkView is a fast, good-looking Markdown viewer and editor for Windows that actually shows your images.

Many Markdown viewers show broken images for anything stored next to the document. MarkView serves every document from its own folder, the same way a web server or GitHub does, so relative paths just work. It also handles parent folders, raw HTML tags, absolute Windows paths (even with spaces), network shares, file:/// URLs and remote images.

Read with GitHub-style formatting: tables, task lists, footnotes, alerts, emoji, syntax-highlighted code, Mermaid diagrams and KaTeX math. Switch to the built-in editor for a live side-by-side preview that scrolls in sync, paste screenshots straight into your document, and export to PDF with everything intact.

MarkView is small, starts instantly, follows your Windows light or dark theme and accent color, and sends no telemetry. Your files stay on your computer.

  • Version 1.3.0 (2026-10-21)
    New: files saved in older encodings now open correctly. Japanese (Shift-JIS, EUC-JP), Chinese (GBK, Big5), Korean (EUC-KR), Cyrillic and Western European (ANSI) files and Notepad's UTF-16 files display properly, and saving keeps their encoding. If you add a character the encoding can't store, MarkView offers to save the file as UTF-8 instead.
    Improved: very large documents open with a fraction of the memory. Off-screen parts of the preview, math and code highlighting are prepared as you scroll to them.
    If MarkView closes unexpectedly, it now records the cause in crash.log, which you can attach to a bug report.

    Version 1.2.1 (2026-10-20)
    Fixed: MarkView could close as soon as you opened a document containing a link or image whose address has accented letters or non-Latin characters, such as a link to a heading in Japanese or a file name in Russian.
