Description

A strong aurora is no use if the sky won't cooperate.

Aurora Tracker & Forecast answers the question every aurora watcher actually asks: “Can I see it right now?” It combines real-time space-weather data with the local sky conditions that determine whether the lights will actually be visible from where you are.

Live conditions

See the current Kp index, your location's aurora visibility probability, and the solar-wind readings that drive auroral activity—including solar-wind speed and the all-important IMF Bz. Space-weather data is sourced from NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center.

3-day forecast

Plan the nights ahead with an hour-by-hour Kp forecast, plus an auroral-oval map showing how far toward the equator the aurora is expected to reach.

Real viewing conditions

A Kp number alone doesn't tell you whether you'll actually see the aurora. Aurora Tracker & Forecast also considers the conditions at your location—darkness, cloud cover, and Moon brightness. A strong aurora forecast on a cloudy or moonlit night is presented honestly, so you know when it's actually worth going outside.

Search any city

Planning a trip north, or curious about another location tonight? Search any city by name and instantly see its current conditions and forecast. Free, with no account required.

Aurora alerts

Get notified when aurora activity is likely. Choose your minimum Kp, how far ahead you want the notification, and your quiet hours so nothing wakes you at 3 a.m. Alerts only trigger when your location is genuinely dark, helping prevent notifications for auroras you wouldn't be able to see.

Windows note: Windows may not deliver scheduled notifications while the app is fully closed. The Forecast screen is always available as your reliable planning tool.

Anywhere on Earth

Track both the Northern Lights (aurora borealis) and Southern Lights (aurora australis) at any latitude. Forecasts are calculated for your precise location.

Aurora Tracker Pro (optional)

A one-time purchase that lets you save multiple locations—home, the cabin, or a future trip—and switch between them instantly. Pro also lets alerts monitor all your saved locations instead of only your current location. Everything else stays free.

No account. No sign-up. No ads.

Data from NOAA (space weather), Open-Meteo (cloud cover), and GeoNames (city search, CC BY 4.0).
