Tailscale Auto Rules
Nieuw  Tailscale Auto Rules is a companion app for Tailscale. It never asks you to think about your VPN again: it watches the network your phone is on and asks the official Tailscale client to turn the tunnel on or off accordingly.

It is not a VPN. It implements no tunnel of its own, holds no account, and replaces nothing. The official Tailscale app must be installed — this app simply drives it.

WHAT IT DOES

• Turns the tunnel ON when you are on mobile data or on a Wi-Fi network you have not marked as trusted.
• Turns it OFF on your trusted networks — home, office, anywhere the tunnel is unnecessary.
• Leaves the tunnel alone in airplane mode, and whenever no rule applies.
• Learns your gestures: turn Tailscale on or off by hand on a network, and that choice is remembered and replayed every time you come back to it.

NETWORK PREFERENCES

One screen, one list. Every network you care about gets a clear behaviour — tunnel always off, or tunnel always on — whether you declared it yourself or the app learned it from a gesture. Networks that are not in the list simply follow the automation. Swipe a card sideways to hand a network back to the automation.

EVERY DECISION IS EXPLAINED

The home screen shows the observed tunnel state, the current network and the rule behind the last change. A history keeps the last 500 changes, each one naming the rule that decided it. Nothing happens without a reason you can read.

PRIVACY

• Nothing leaves your phone. No account, no server, no analytics, no advertising.
• Location permission is used for exactly one thing: reading the name of the Wi-Fi network you are connected to, which Android classifies as location data. Your position and your movements are never read, stored or transmitted.
• Every permission is explained before it is requested, and refusing one only disables the feature that needs it.

WHY A PERMANENT NOTIFICATION

Watching the network continuously requires a visible foreground service — Android has required this since version 8, and there is no way around it for an app that must react to a network change in seconds rather than in a quarter of an hour. The notification shows the live tunnel state and the rule that decided it, and lets you turn the automation off without opening the app.

• The official Tailscale app, installed and signed in.
• Android 8.0 or later.
