Tiene funcionalidades de inventario, identificación, y aviso de incidencias, con adquisición de datos en campo. A través de sencillos menús y fotos in situ, facilita al usuario la identificación de especies y la gestión de sus setales. smartbasket es también una herramienta pedagógica con carácter lúdico, y un instrumento para la participación ciudadana en el proyecto innovador GO MIKOGEST para la gestión dinámica del recurso micológico.
La aplicación smartbasket está desarrollada en el marco del proyecto Grupo Operativo-MIKOGEST (www.mikogest.net), (Gestión dinámica innovadora del recurso micológico), beneficiario de ayudas FEADER en la convocatoria 2019 a proyectos de innovación de interés general por Grupos Operativos de la Asociación Europea para la innovación en materia de productividad y sostenibilidad agrícolas (AEI-AGRI). El Grupo Operativo MIKOGEST está coordinado por Fundación Cesefor y en él participan la Federación de Asociaciones Forestales de Castilla y León (FAFCYLE), la Confederación de Organizaciones de Selvicultores de España (COSE), el Centro de Ciencia y Tecnología Forestal de Cataluña (CTFC) y la Federación Española de Empresarios de Setas y Trufas (FETRUSE). GO MIKOGEST cuenta con el apoyo de la Junta de Castilla y León y la colaboración de la Federación de Asociaciones Micológicas de Castilla y León (FAMCAL), la Asociación Forestal de Salamanca (ASFOSA), y la Asociación Forestal de Burgos (ASFOBUR).
