Elle permet de recueillir et partager les observations de terrain, les photographies.
Ainsi, l'application « WNat » et le site « https://www.wnat.fr » constituent un ensemble homogène d'outils de recueil et partage, à des fins de gestion de la connaissance, sur la thématique de la biodiversité des territoires, de France métropolitaine et des DOM-TOM.
L'application « WNat » permet une saisie on/offline sur le terrain, géo référencée, faisant gagner un temps précieux à l'observateur et l’immédiateté de la transmission rend service à la conservation des territoires et à tous ceux qui contribuent à sa gestion ou sa connaissance.
Les données recueillies, portant sur de nombreuses classes de plantes ou d’animaux (oiseaux, mammifères, insectes, reptiles...), sont ajoutées à celles déjà présentes dans https://www.wnat.fr et peuvent être transmises de manière standardisée au Système d’Information sur la Nature et les Paysages, piloté par le Muséum National d’Histoire naturelle .
Les contributeurs peuvent utiliser l’un ou l’autre des outils ou en cumuler les usages car ils sont interconnectés à partir d’un seul et même compte (login+mot de passe unique).
