Sandwalkers
Every decade, the Mka tribe sends caravans of adventurers into the Phithi, the meteorological chaos that keeps the Uwando tribes isolated from each other and makes life outside the refuges almost impossible.

Their mission: to establish diplomatic and trade relations, to explore and reclaim the lands left to the mercy of monsters and pirates, and, most importantly, to plant a new tree city that can become a refuge for the Mka and their allies. Regardless of the success or failure of their mission, the caravans must send the memories they have gained back to the capital, using the crystospheres carried by traveling beetles.

Guide a caravan of adventurers through varied landscapes.

Fight hordes of pirates, wizards and monsters, and survive acid rain, storms and heat waves.

Rescue refugees, seek allies to support you and stir up the past in search of the causes of Phithi.

Keep hope: in this hostile desert, the caravaneers' faith in their mission is all that protects them from certain death.

Progress by passing on your knowledge to a new caravan.

Make choices that will affect your future expeditions.

Each character has different powers. It's up to you to explore lost ruins as an archaeologist or to track down massive creatures as a hunter.

Don't underestimate the weather! It conditions the movements of caravanners and the outcome of confrontations.

Repair the broken climate, and put an end to centuries of wandering.

    Balancing

    Please note that we’re iterating cautiously on this one: many variables impact Sandwalkers' balancing and a small change can sometimes have tremendous impacts

    We increased monsters’ HPs & Shield. We don’t want to increase the stats anymore on the first levels, but we might continue to increase them on higher levels.

    Desertic & arid regions now provides between 10% & 20% less Supplies tiles

    The weight of all equipments & fetishes is reduced to 1 instead of 3

    Several minor tweaks

    Bugfix

    A blocker was occurring when encountering fire elementals

    Equipments, Fetishes & fight consumables items have levels, but they were not behaving correctly.

    Fix a blocker on Nebulous questline

    Bloodworms weren’t positioned correctly in fights

    Some attacks from the Sobek and the Terrasaur weren’t giving their side effects to the right target.

    All enemy groups have been reworked to improve variety and ensure a fair distribution of all existing mobs:

    Each region now has a set of specific monster “factions” it can trigger

    Each monster “faction” has more varied groups

    We added a new version of some monsters, who will start fights with an active effect on them to add even more variety

    All loot gained from monsters has been reworked:

    More variety of items

    Less loot most of the time

    Enemies will drop items according to their level: you won’t get a +2 Agility item from a level 8 monster anymore!

    Monsters' HP & Shield progression is now related to their base HP/shield stats. Shield-based tanks & HP-based squishy damage dealers were looking the same in end-game because of our progression setup; it should be better now

    Continue to tweak bosses’ HP with the same philosophy: more tankiness, less lethality

    A blocker was occurring on quests sometimes

    You could get blocked on the island during the Azore questline

    You could get blocked after the final fight

    Spamming inputs on the caravaneer selection screen could block the game

    Helloooo everyone! For today's patch, we're releasing some polished things that were not exactly as we intended ; we're also keeping on fixing bugs, and, finally, we're making some adjustments with the followers. Nerfing those that give damages, buffing those that give resistances!

    Polish

    The Crystal Library upgrade providing XP is now increasing the base level of caravaneers instead

    The upgrade selection flow has been fastened, so that selecting multiples upgrades would be less painful

    A new upgrade in the Crystal library allows you to increase the max number of supports you can have

    The Crystal Library cannot be accessed from Lecwasi anymore: the only way to enter it is to start a new caravan!

    All bosses now have the “Unwavering” effect permanently applied to them, effectively preventing any stun

    Hello again everyone! For the second patch of the day, two major bugs are now properly fix. We're tackling the Dragonopterous issue also for old saves. With this morning's fix of te blackscreen, we should normally have fixed the 2 major bugs that were still happenning.

    Save fix

    Fix all saves that were stuck in an empty Yoz without Dragonopter. There might be 2 of them, but defeating one will allow you to finish the quest

    Some saves were missing a Fragment due to a bug which has since been fixed. It should now be resolved.

    Balancing

    Enemies scale correctly again, depending on the regions and caravan’s level

    It means that you won’t always face enemies matching your caravan’s level anymore

    Fixed broken text on a support

    Lowered the volume for the “Encounter gauge increase” sounds

    Fix a bug on music in Pause menu

    Music doesn’t restart from the beggining after a fight anymore

    Patch 2.0.5 (11 April 2025)

    Hi everyone!

    The past two days have been intense as we tackled major balancing issues. Some players were able to finish the game in a single run, defeating all enemies in just one turn — not exactly what we had in mind for Sandwalkers! This patch focuses on restoring challenge and progression. Here’s what’s new:

    Enemy Scaling & Encounters

    Enemy scaling fixed

    Enemy groups were no longer scaling with your caravan, leading to easy fights against low-level (Lv.1) enemies. This is now fixed.

    Unit encounter rework We’ve restructured enemy groups to make encounters more varied and challenging:

    2-enemy fights were too frequent and not engaging — most have been removed.

    Stronger enemy groups have been added across all regions.

    Each region now features more diverse enemy compositions.

    More tweaks will follow — this is just the first step in our balancing effort.

    Caravaneer Upgrades Nerfed / Roguelite Bonuses Buffed

    Sandwalkers isn’t about a single overpowered caravaneer dashing to Umama. It’s about generations building on each other’s journey.

    Caravaneer upgrades nerfed by ~30%.

    Cristal Library combat upgrades have been buffed to reinforce roguelite progression.

    General Balance Tweaks

    Protector Gains +2 Strength/level (up from +1). "Raise Shield" ability nerfed.

    Status Effects Decaying Shield buffed. Infested nerfed. Blinded nerfed.

    Bosses & Elites HP increased, but Strength reduced at levels 3–5.

    All enemies Strength reduced at levels 3–5, but increased from level 7 onward.

    Merchants Merchants in Cities now gives more items

    Bug Fixes

    Fixed several attacks that dealt pure damage with no type.

    "Ban Hammer" Fetish now correctly targets the launcher.

    Known Issues (Still Investigating)

    Rare black screen blocking progress.

    Some units show the wrong sprite when stunned.

    Bosses can be stunned, even when they should be immune.

    Trade with merchants can be broken, allowing players to get insane amount of items

    Thank you all for your patience and invaluable feedback — it really helped us identify and fix this core issue. There’s more to come, but this patch should make Sandwalkers feel closer to our original vision.

    Fixed a bug with the Dragonopterous not reappearing if you lost against him once, preventing you to complete the quest

    ATTENTION, this is right now only fixed for new players doing the quest after this patch. To apply the fix on currently locked save, we need more time as it require editing the saves. We should be ready to deploy this on monday. If this happened to you, please wait monday (or alternatively you can delete your save files and start over). We're very sorry about this, but rather deploy the fix now for future players even if it is partial

    Fixed an error in Ban Hammer's fetish description

    Azor boss cannot be stun anymore

    "Shields Up!" attack :

    Now give 90% of his shield to the protected person (previous value : 180%)

    Memory Overload attack :

    Hi everyone! Patch 1.3 is here with a big batch of content and improvements for the base game.

    A blocker was sometimes occurring during enemy’s turn in fight

    A blocker was sometimes occurring after moving a unit in fight

    “Defensive stance” was causing a blocker if the launcher was the last member of its team.

    “Galvanised” effect was sometimes giving Health in addition to the expected Shield gain

    Patch 1.1.2 (19 September 2024)

    Patch 1.1.2 is here! Even if we’re mostly working on 1.2 and new content for later, we still have a lot of small improvements to make.

    Balancing

    Swordman ability now gives the “Barrier” trait instead of “Immuned” (it was a bit overpowered, sorry!)

    Bugfix

    A blocker could happen when you were using an attack removing a debuff

    “Burning” damage were stacking for each stacks, which wasn’t intended

    Broken text issue on some Abilities

    The Trait “Voracious Ambition” wasn’t working properly

    “Ruins” service quest wasn’t working correctly

    You could obtain some upgrades in inconsistent order

    “Caustic rain” weather could create a high density of monster groups next to each other

    “Poison” damage were not display

    Broken text in “The Art of Forging” quest

    “The Art of Forging” : tweak an event outcome dealing 0% damage

    Broken text in Yayah

    Other various broken texts (biomes, weathers, traits, etc.)

    Several edge cases were preventing “Blinded” to destack

    Units were visually overlapping in fight sometimes

    Big delay between the skill and its animation sometimes

    Attack tooltips could be cut at the edge of the screen in the Caravan menu

    “Ardent” trait wasn’t working properly

    Pyromancer ability could remove destroyed SE and gain bonuses from it

    Fix broken texts in questboards from various cities

    UX

    Several improvements on attack tooltips

    Better target wording of AoE skill

    We now have different feedback on target depending if we’re showing potential target or actual target (in a enemy’s preview for example)

    “Column” and “line” AoE texts are now used properly

    “Poisoned” damages are more clearly displayed

    Add a feedback when a skill miss its target (because of “blinded” effect for example)

    Patch 1.0.5 (4 July 2024)

    Hi everyone, here comes a big update with some changes on attacks & recruitment. We are approaching the end of our optimization phase and are starting to work on new content for the game. We should be able to tell your more about that soon!

    Attacks

    “Shield bash” now applies “Slowed” even if the target has no Shield

    Pyromancer’s “Burning swarms” now deals damage to all enemies

    Pyromancer’s “Fire coat” attack was reworked

    Fire Resistance (3) ⇒ +10 Shield & Thorns (1)

    “Forgotten ritual” now heals a flat amount of HPs instead of giving “Health Regeneration” effect

    “Genius” refactoring

    “Incendiary cocktail” (formerly “Glue grenade”) now deals fire damage

    “Explosive prototype” now deals base Air damages in addition to its random effects

    “Tonic” now deals Air damages to one target and apply either haste (2) or an agility bonus to the launcher

    All Genius attacks have an “Intelligence” ratio now

    Prob on attack’s effects were changed

    Tweak many attacks & upgrades values

    Equipments HP/Shield bonus are drastically increased to give an actual impact

    Quests

    “Delivery” service will not direct you to a specific place instead of any place.

    “Ruins” service was leading to a broken underground map: it should now be fixed.

    Recruitment

    Recruited caravaneers’ level is now correctly applied on their stats.

    Once they’re recruited, you will directly select your caravaneer’s upgrades

    Caravaneer recruitment pool are now handled differently:

    Their content is refreshed every 100 caravan’s movement

    You can recruit each caravaneer only once

    UX/UI

    “Support” screen is now always displayed, even if you cannot get any follower yet

    Events & quests outcomes previews now work correctly: the item previewed should always be the right one

    Tweak some attacks & upgrades tooltips to make them more readable

    Attack tooltips’ size no longer depends on unit’s position

    Quest rewards are now always displayed in the quest book

    World

    There is now a path going east from Lecwasi when you start the game

    The “roads” upgrades in the Crystal Library now create road with reduced supplies cost compared to the nearby biomes.

    Other fixes

    Fix several issues linked to effects’ stacks depletion

    “Infested” effect is fixed!

    “Insidious seed” attack and its upgrade are back

    Several broken localization keys were fixed

    Caravaneers sometimes had a duplicate of their sprite

    “Space Gem” icon is now displayed correctly

    “Immuned” effect icon is now displayed correctly

    “Poison” damages are now displayed correctly

    Missing upgrades on Archeologist when leveling-up

    Fix an issue causing the 3rd Fragment to never be dropped after completing Terracer’s questline.

    You cannot stun a unit forever anymore, sorry!

    Other minor fixes
    Patch 1.0.1.2 (21 June 2024)

    Hey everyone!

    We're pushing a small update that just fixed a special kind of tile in the desert giving you only 1 supply where it should give you 12 of them. That is a low risk update and was quickly tested on our side, but can have a huge positive impact on your survivability :D

    There is another patch coming early next week, with some bigger changes and fixes, that were not a good idea to push live at 6PM on a Friday! For exemple, allowing you to abandon a run and start a new one without having to go and get vainquished in a fight on purpose, or slowly starving your caravan to death

    This change, and many fixes are coming early next week! We'll tell you more when it's there

    Patch 1.0.1 (20 June 2024)

    Hello everyone!

    First of all, thanks for playing Sandwalkers! We already had some great feedback and we cannot thank you enough for taking the time to post them Here's a first patchnote about what's been fixed and what we're still working on!
    Patch 1.0.1

    Hotfix

    Temporarily changed “Insidious Seed” attack from the Botanist as it can cause crashes.

    User experience

    The “new run” button on the title screen will no longer offer to erase your save. This has been changed to either start a new run, or continue a run you've started but not finished yet.

    You can still reset your save through a dedicated button in Options>General in the title screen

    Reworded some skill tooltips that weren’t clear enough

    Fixed misleading descriptions on Shield upgrades in the Cristal library, since it’s not giving +20 flat Shield but +20% max Shield

    Balancing

    Red ant speed has been nerfed from 6 to 4 Having two angry ants playing before you could do anything was a bit frustrating.

    Starting max supplies are increased from 15 to 20 While we want the desert to be challenging in early game, we feel like adding 5 Supplies will slightly help most players in their first runs.

    Increased Supplies gain on Desert cactus & animals Again: we want you to be challenged, not to suffer from neverending starvation

    Localization

    Korean language is now named correctly in the language settings

    Bugfix

    Fixed the dynamic counter in the description of the “Repairs” quest

    Double clicking the “Leave Place” action for the first time was hiding the UI sometimes

    Effect stacks not decreasing correctly in fight (visual bug only)

    Mac

    Fixed issues related to specific resolutions, preventing you from closing some screens (like the Map)

    Linux

    Cinematics will now play normally

    This is some stuff we know about, but that couldn't make it into this patch without threatening either the integrity of the game, or the integrity of our hard working developpers :D

    We’re aware that the introduction cinematic is missing some subtitles and are working on it: it will be tackled in the next hotfix!

    We’re tackling a memory leak issue causing freezes and performance drops the longer a play session lasts. As a workaround, you can save and restart the game ; this should make things better even if it is not ideal

    Still working on improving the attack tooltips clarity
