Since the advent of the vedic age, one community which has greatly contributed towards what India is today is non other but the Vaish community. Whether its economy, polity, society or culture, this community has left an indelible mark. One can just shuffle the pages of history to know the significance of this community. The vaish community has produced leading luminaries in the fields as varied as social, cultural, spiritual, political, educational, industrial, literature and journalism. No doubt, this community has defined new parameters of marvelous achievements which are worth emulating for other communities of the societies both nationally and internationally.
According to the ancient scriptures, Vaish evolved from Brahmas thighs. Its duty was to ensure the communitys prosperity through agriculture, cattle rearing and trade. Later, they became traders and merchants. As the twice-born vaish community became economically strong because they controlled commerce. Many of the influentials among them were honored with glorious titles. The word bania which is more prevalent today has actually been derived from the sanskrit word vanik meaning trader. The vaish community around the world has contributed immensely to the society by building hospitals, endowing universities and developing industries. Stoically withstanding the ravages of time this community has been enormously successful in preserving its social and financial stability down the ages. With significant contribution in the countrys revenue and dedicatedly meeting social obligations such as building schools, hospitals, sarais, wells and dharamshalas this community truly reflects the shining image of India.
This community has produced Maharaja Agrasen, Sant Sunder Das, Bhama Shah, King Ashok, Chandragupt, Chanakya, Mahatma Gandhi, Ram Monohar Lohia, Lala Lajpat Rai, Jai Shankar Prasad, Maithali Sharan Gupta etc. in the filed of Cultural, Social, Political, Spiritual, Literature and Journalism. Millions of vaish people have contributed towards the independence of our country. Mahatma Gandhi and their followers were from the Vaish Samaj. This community has given thousands of enterpreneurs to the country like Shri Ghanshyam Das Ji Birla, Jamnalal Ji, Durga Prasad Mandeliya, Gujarmal Modi, Kamla Pant Singhania etc.
The nation could progress economically due to their efforts and vision. The scientists and scholars like Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, Dr. Atmaram, Dr. D.C. Kothari etc, Spiritual leaders like Sant Tukaram, Sant Sunder Das, Acharya Tulsi, and Muni Vidyanand etc., Social reformers like Sri Prakash, Sri Mann Narayan, Acharya Narendera Dev, Lala Lajpat Rai, Dr. R.M. Lohia, Seth Govind Das, Hanuman Prasad Poddar, Desh Bandhu Gupta etc., Writers, Poets and Journalists Like Bharatendu Harish Chandra, Jai Shankar Prasad, Maithalisharan Gupt, Jainendra Kumar, Kaka Hathrasi, Vishnu Prabhakar, Dori Lal Aggarwal etc. Statesman like Dhawja Prasad, Chandra Bhanu Gupta, Banarsi Das Gupta ,Sitaram Kesri and others have always been revered for their great contributions.
