Popis

Wo heute eines der beliebtesten und modernsten Museen Europas steht, wurde vor rund 150 Jahren der namengebende Neanderthaler entdeckt. Im damals von Steilwänden eingerahmten Tal der Düssel haben Arbeiter im Jahre 1856 beim Kalkabbau Knochen gefunden, die der Wuppertaler Lehrer und Naturforscher Fuhlrott als Skelettreste eines eiszeitlichen Menschen identifizierte – der Neanderthaler war geboren.

Heute ist der Neanderthaler ein wahrer Weltstar. Jeder kennt ihn - jeder hat ein Bild von ihm. Grund genug, dass ihm und der Menschheitsgeschichte, in der er eine bedeutende Rolle spielt, im Jahre 1996 ein Museum gewidmet wurde, welches seither jährlich 170.000 Besucher in das Neandertal nahe Düsseldorf lockt.

Das Museum und seine Ausstellung wurden national und international mehrfach preisgekrönt. Nicht zuletzt auf Grund der multimedialen Präsentation, die jedem Besucher, ob groß oder klein, mit eindrucksvollen Inszenierungen, Hörtexten, Filmen und interaktiven PCs einen abwechslungsreichen und spannenden Museumsbesuch ermöglicht.
