At the heart of EGK SMRT Maps is a powerful route-finding algorithm that leverages breadth-first search (BFS) to deliver the shortest paths between any two stations, factoring in transfers and line changes. Whether you're heading from Yishun to Bugis or exploring LRT loops in Punggol and Sengkang, simply input your starting and ending points, and the app computes optimal routes in seconds. Each route comes with an estimated duration, incorporating base travel times per station (2 minutes) and transfer penalties (5 minutes), plus a subtle real-time variation to mimic actual conditions.
The app boasts a visually stunning, interactive map rendered in SwiftUI, plotting all stations using normalized geographic coordinates for accuracy. Lines are color-coded—red for North-South, green for East-West, blue for Downtown, purple for North-East, yellow for Circle, brown for Thomson-East Coast, and gray for LRTs—making it easy to trace paths. Highlighted routes appear in bold black for clarity, and users can zoom/pan via ScrollView for detailed views.
Location awareness is a standout feature: Using CoreLocation, the app detects your position and lists the five nearest stations, complete with line details and colors. This is perfect for on-the-go decisions, like finding the closest MRT stop while wandering Orchard Road.
Data integrity is ensured with a comprehensive station database covering all MRT lines (North-South, East-West, Downtown, North-East, Circle, Thomson-East Coast) and full LRT networks (Sengkang East/West Loops, Punggol East/West Loops). Each station includes name, coordinates, line, next/previous stations, and transfers, enabling seamless navigation even on circular or branched lines.
User interface is intuitive: A gradient blue-purple background sets a modern tone, with search fields for "From" and "To," "Find Route" and "Clear" buttons, and a scrollable results section displaying step-by-step paths with line colors. If no route is found, a friendly message guides you to check inputs.
