A Magyar Hidrológiai Társaság (MHT) szakmai - társadalmi szervezet. Célja, hogy előmozdítsa és lehetővé tegye a korszerű ismeretek és tapasztalatok cseréjét a víztudományok és a technika területén dolgozó szakemberek között.
2013-ban 96 éves Társaság a Magyarhoni Földtani Társulat 1917-ben alakult hidrológiai szakosztályának, valamint a Magyar Mérnök és Építész Egylet Vízépítészeti tagozatának 1949-es egyesüléséből jött létre.
Az MHT közhasznú szervezet. Tagjai a víz- és környezetügy különböző területéről egyéni szakértők (tervezés, kivitelezés, területi és központi adminisztráció, oktatás, közszolgáltatás, egyéb termelő vállalkozások szakemberei), valamint jogi tag szervezetek (kutatóhelyek, tervező vállalatok, oktatási intézmények, közigazgatási szervezetek, stb.). Társaságunknak mintegy 3000 egyéni és kb. 150 jogi tagja van.
Vezető szervei a közgyűlés, az elnökség és az intézőbizottság. A társaság tevékenységének törvényességét - Ügyészségen kívül - saját választott bizottságai ellenőrzik: Felügyelő Bizottság, valamint a Fegyelmi és Etikai Bizottság.
