Description
Every Markdown app with Mermaid support does the same thing: they render diagrams inline or make you click to enlarge them. When you're reviewing a complex architecture document with multiple sequence diagrams, you end up scrolling up and down, losing your place, trying to remember what the text said while looking at the diagram.
I wanted something simple: keep my Markdown clean and readable, but show me all the diagrams separately so I can actually review them.
Here's What Makes Markgram Different
Other apps mix everything together. Markgram separates your concerns:
• Left pane: Browse your folders and files • Middle pane: Read or edit clean Markdown text (no inline diagrams cluttering it) • Right pane: Every Mermaid diagram in that document, rendered beautifully
The Markdown stays readable. The diagrams get the space they deserve. You can actually focus.
The Diagram Viewer That Actually Works
When you have multiple diagrams in a document: • View them all at once (scroll through them) • Or pick one from the dropdown to focus on it • Zoom in with your trackpad to see details • Pan around when zoomed • Reset with one click
No clicking to enlarge. No losing context. The diagrams are just... there. Always.
It's Still a Great Markdown Editor
• Clean, distraction-free writing • Syntax highlighting • Auto-save • Live updates as you type • Detects external changes automatically • Collapsible sidebars when you need focus
Write your docs, review your docs, or just browse your docs. It works for all of it.
Every Diagram Type You Need
Flowcharts, sequence diagrams, class diagrams, state diagrams, ER diagrams, Gantt charts, Git graphs, pie charts, and more. If Mermaid supports it, Markgram renders it.
Built for Real Work
I review a lot of engineering docs. Architecture decisions, API designs, system flows. I needed something that didn't get in the way. Something fast, native, and simple.
No Electron. No bloat. Just a native macOS app that does one thing well: show you your Markdown and your diagrams side-by-side.
Privacy First
Everything runs on your Mac. No cloud. No tracking. No telemetry. Your docs stay yours.
What's Coming
I'm working on AI-powered features for future releases. But for now, Markgram does what it's supposed to: get out of your way and let you work.
Who Is This For?
If you write or review technical documentation with Mermaid diagrams, Markgram is for you. Software engineers, technical writers, solution architects, DevOps engineers, engineering managers, students learning system design.
If you've ever been frustrated scrolling up and down in a Markdown preview trying to see a diagram while reading the text, you'll appreciate what Markgram does.
Try It
Download it. Open a folder with some Markdown files. See if the three-pane layout makes your life easier. I think it will.
And if you have feedback or ideas, I'm listening. This is version 1.0, and I built it to solve my own problem. If it solves yours too, great. If you think something could be better, let me know.
Simple. Fast. Native. Built for engineers who read diagrams.
