Neuer  Downwrite is a Markdown editor that gets out of your way and lets you write.

No bloated feature panels. No account sign-up. No subscription. Just a clean, fast editor with a live preview and one-click PDF export.

Your Markdown source sits on the left. A fully rendered preview updates on the right as you type — no delay, no stutter. Scrolling stays in sync so you always see exactly what you're
working on.

Export PDFs you'd actually send to someone
Downwrite turns your Markdown into clean, professionally styled PDFs. Code blocks are syntax-highlighted in over 10 languages including Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Rust, Go, Dart, and SQL. Tables, blockquotes, images, and nested lists all render with proper formatting. Drop in a simple HTML comment to insert a page break wherever you need one.

A formatting toolbar that earns its space
Bold, italic, strikethrough, inline code, code blocks, blockquotes, links, images, tables, horizontal rules, and headings H1 through H6 — all one click away. Every button shows its
keyboard shortcut so you can graduate to the keyboard whenever you're ready.

Navigate long documents with ease
A built-in Table of Contents sidebar shows your document's heading structure. Click any heading to jump straight to that section. The active heading highlights as you scroll so you always know where you are.

Work with multiple files at once
Open as many documents as you need in tabs. Drag and drop files onto the window to open them instantly. Downwrite handles .md, .markdown, and .txt files. Your open tabs and cursor positions are restored when you relaunch, so you pick up right where you left off.

Keyboard shortcuts for everything
New, Open, Save, Save All, Export — all wired to the shortcuts you already know. Full text formatting from the keyboard. Toggle the sidebar, switch tabs, and navigate your document
without touching the mouse.

Your work stays on your machine
Downwrite doesn't phone home, doesn't sync to anyone's cloud, and doesn't collect your documents. Your files live on your disk and nowhere else.
