The game begins in the vibrant days of youth, where you relive the protagonist’s childhood alongside Emily, the love of his life. Gameplay
The last light is a emotional story-driven exploration game.
The players step into the life of a man reflecting on his past, navigating through key stages of his journey as his eyesight gradually deteriorates. You’ll explore beautifully crafted levels that represent different moments in his life, from the vivid memories of childhood to the challenges of growing older.
Emily, the love of his life, is your constant companion throughout this journey. Early on, when your vision is still clear, Emily primarily serves as a guide, showing you the way forward and helping you to find your hidden memories on the way.
Memories are represented as ghostly version of yourself looking at certain objects or thinking about something. Coming close to a memory makes you absorb the memory and a part of the story and the thoughts of the protagonist is read to you.
However, as you continue your sight begins to fade and your emotions (that are connected to the story) become more deeply intertwined with your perception of the world, Emily’s role becomes even more vital.
As your condition worsens, with blurriness, fading colors, and encroaching fog complicating your path, Emily’s presence not only guides you but also helps restore your vision. When she is near, she brings moments of clarity, lifting the fog and restoring color to the world, making it possible for you to navigate levels that would otherwise be shrouded in darkness. Her proximity is both an emotional and visual anchor, directly influencing the world around you as your connection deepens.
The gameplay is deeply intertwined with the story, reflecting the emotional highs and lows of the protagonist’s life. Each level becomes a unique blend of exploration, hide and seek, and narrative discovery, where Emily’s presence not only guides you but also helps you see clearly, both literally and figuratively, in a world where sight and emotion are inseparably connected.
