Description

DependencyLens
DependencyLens shows you every open-source license in your project, in one list, and flags the ones that need a decision before they become a legal surprise. It reads the package files already in your project folder, works out each dependency's license - including the packages your packages bring in - and sorts them into permissive, weak copyleft, copyleft, restricted and unknown. Everything happens on your PC. Nothing is uploaded and no account is needed.

DROP A FOLDER, GET AN ANSWER

• Drag a project folder from File Explorer onto the window and the scan starts at once - no Browse dialog for the most common action.
• Reads package.json, package-lock.json and yarn.lock (npm), requirements.txt, Pipfile, pyproject.toml and poetry.lock (Python), Cargo.toml and Cargo.lock (Rust), go.mod (Go), .csproj, packages.config and packages.lock.json (.NET), Gemfile and Gemfile.lock (Ruby), pom.xml and build.gradle (Java), and composer.json and composer.lock (PHP).
• Follows lock files to list transitive dependencies as well - the ones your dependencies pull in - not just the ones you typed.
• Uses the license information of packages already installed in the folder, recognises a LICENSE file from its text, and only then falls back to a bundled list of widely used packages, always labelled as such.

MAKE THE CALL

• Every dependency in one sortable, filterable list built for thousands of rows, Compact by default.
• Right-click a flagged package for View license text, Mark reviewed and Open source repository - everything needed to judge a GPL-versus-MIT question, one right-click away.
• Mark each one reviewed with a note for your team's record. If a later scan finds a different license the review is marked "look again".
• Set a license by hand when a package states none.
• The full texts of the well-known licenses ship inside the app, each explained in plain words.

SEE WHAT CHANGED

• Scan again after an upgrade and see exactly what is new since your last reviewed scan.
• A package that only moved from 1.2.0 to 1.3.0 is never reported as new.
• If an upgrade changes a package's license, that is listed first, on its own.

A REPORT ANYONE CAN READ

• A report for a lawyer or an acquirer's reviewer: a verdict and a paragraph in plain sentences, what needs a decision and why, what has been settled, and how each license was found.
• Print it, save it as a PDF, or export a spreadsheet or a review pack with the license texts.

COMPLIANCE DESK - OPTIONAL MONTHLY ADD-ON

For teams and agencies, a subscription add-on of $2.49 a month adds:
• A portfolio view across several codebases.
• Policy rules: licenses that are never acceptable, or need sign-off, applied automatically to every scan.
• Bundled components: track the EXEs and libraries you ship that no package manager can see.
• CI-friendly export: a machine-readable JSON report and a CycloneDX bill of materials.
• A historical audit trail: every scan kept and labelled by release.
• Team review assignment through a shared folder.
Everything you have already made stays yours if the subscription ends.

PRICE

DependencyLens costs $4.99, paid once. The base app is never a subscription.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN

• No network access: no telemetry, no analytics, no update check, no remote content.
• It reads only the folders you point it at, and never changes them.
• The one command that reaches the web is Open source repository, which asks your own browser to open a package's page.

DependencyLens organizes license information for your own review. It is not legal advice.
