SESSIONS THAT SURVIVE
A background daemon owns every shell, and the window is just a thin client. Close the window and everything keeps running; reopen and you're back where you were. Sessions are checkpointed every few seconds, so even after a reboot they're restored cold: a fresh shell in the saved directory with the old scrollback replayed behind a divider. If Claude Code was running in a session, resuming the conversation is a single Enter away.
THE "OOPS" GRACE WINDOW
Killing a session doesn't actually kill it — the tab closes but the process keeps running for five minutes, with a live countdown in the sidebar. One click restores it and cancels the kill entirely. An accidental "exit" is just as recoverable. Kill something twice to skip the grace.
TABS THAT WORK LIKE YOU DO
Browser-style tabs that shrink as they multiply, colored collapsible tab groups, custom names that stick, and park-a-tab-as-a-pill for things you want out of the way. Tab icons show what's running inside (Claude Code, python, cargo, docker, and more). Groups, names, and layout persist across restarts and reboots. Drag tabs to reorder, pin up to three custom badges on any session, and size tabs your way: Ctrl+scroll over the tab bar for a global width, or drag a single tab's edge to give just that tab its own. A dotted grip beside the window controls means there is always a spot to drag the window by, even with a packed strip.
EVERY SESSION, TRANSCRIBED
Full transcripts of every session are kept on disk (14 days by default, configurable) behind a built-in history page: search across everything you have run, reopen any transcript, and read it with its original colors.
AUTOCOMPLETE THAT KNOWS YOUR HABITS
A per-directory predictor learns from the commands you actually type and suggests them back through PSReadLine — inline ghost text or a list, from your habits alone or blended with shell history, or off entirely. It knows that what you run in one project folder is not what you run in another.
TEMPLATES AND DEFAULTS
Set a default working directory for new tabs, and define session templates — shell, folder, and title presets one right-click away on the new-tab button.
EIGHTY COMPLETE THEMES
From clean classics (Nord, Gruvbox, Solarized, Catppuccin) to full scene themes with generated backdrop art: retro amber CRT, Matrix rain, synthwave sunset, deep space with real NASA imagery, and more. Each theme is a whole look — its own font, line spacing, cursor personality, and backdrop, individually overridable — and the entire chrome recolors with the terminal. Every theme is contrast-audited for readability. Or build your own: pick any built-in as a base and override its background, text, and accent colors with color pickers, right from Settings.
SMART TITLES, YOUR RULES
Right-click a tab for title suggestions computed locally from what's on screen — running program, last command, directory. Optionally point it at your own AI endpoint (Anthropic- or OpenAI-compatible, including local gateways like Ollama) for AI-suggested titles; this is off by default and nothing is ever called unless you configure it.
A STATUS BAR FOR THE CURIOUS
A thin strip along the bottom, toggled with Ctrl+Shift+S and kept in full screen: clock, CPU, memory, disk free and disk I/O, GPU and frame rate, network, battery, uptime, process count, input delay, remote-session health, and your open sessions. Click any item to expand it into detail with useful shortcuts. It extends without a rebuild — point an item at any Windows performance counter, using a browser that enumerates every object, instance, and counter on the machine, or run a shell command on a timer in whatever folder the active tab is sitting in.
ZEN MODE
F11 strips away everything but the terminal in true full screen, leaving a small draggable exit pill that pings like sonar for a few seconds so you never lose it.
CLIPBOARD, CONSIDERED
The right-click menu shows what you are about to paste before you paste it, keeps your last three clipboard entries a click away with a full history viewer, and returns focus to the terminal after every paste.
YOUR SHELLS
PowerShell 7, Windows PowerShell, and Command Prompt. Set a default, open one-off tabs in any shell, and each session remembers its shell across restarts — with working-directory tracking in all of them.
FAST AND LIGHT
Built on Tauri (WebView2) and xterm.js with the WebGL renderer — far lighter than an Electron equivalent, with typing latency regression-tested on every build. Source available at github.com/guscatalano/GTerminal.
