Md Forge
Md Forge converts your documents into clean, structured Markdown files — entirely on your device.

Drop in a PDF, Word document (.docx), PowerPoint presentation (.pptx), Excel spreadsheet (.xlsx), HTML file, or image, and Md Forge outputs a well-formed .md file that preserves headings, body text, tables, lists, and code blocks while stripping layout noise such as page numbers, headers, footers, and font metadata.

— WHO THIS IS FOR —

Developers and data engineers who feed documents into AI pipelines, RAG systems, or vector databases. Raw PDF extraction carries significant structural overhead — repeated header and footer text, page-number tokens, encoding characters, and layout coordinates — that inflates token counts and reduces retrieval quality. Converting to Markdown before ingestion removes that overhead, which can meaningfully lower API costs and improve embedding precision on complex documents such as legal contracts, financial reports, and academic papers.

Note: gains vary by document. A plain, single-column PDF with no formatting will show modest improvement. Benchmark on your own corpus before deploying at scale.

Also useful for writers, researchers, and anyone who needs a portable, version-control-friendly plain-text version of their documents.

• It does not connect to the internet or any cloud service unless you opt in
• It does not edit, annotate, or re-format your source files
• It does not perform OCR on scanned image-only PDFs (text must be selectable in the source)

All conversion happens locally using Microsoft's open-source MarkItDown library.
