Description
It connects to virtually any database, but it is not just another generic SQL tool: SQL Data Lens understands the InterSystems data model. Classes, globals, routines, namespaces and SQL objects are all available in a single, fast workspace — no switching between Studio, terminal and a third-party query tool.
WHY SQL DATA LENS
- Built for InterSystems. Browse and analyse class definitions, globals and SQL metadata the way they are actually structured.
- One workspace for everything. Servers, connections, queries, results and scripts stay organised in a single window.
- Fast where it matters. Large result sets, deep global trees and complex schemas stay responsive.
- Works with the rest of your stack. Additional databases can be queried side by side and combined locally.
KEY CAPABILITIES
Connection management
Organise servers, namespaces and credentials in a clear tree. Switch environments in a click and keep development, test and production visually separated.
SQL query editor
A fast editor with syntax highlighting, code completion, formatting, execution plans and multi-statement execution. Export results to CSV, Excel or JSON.
Table viewer
Inspect, filter, sort and edit table data directly — including quick filters, column search and in-place editing without writing UPDATE statements by hand.
Class viewer
Explore InterSystems classes, properties, methods, indices and relationships, and see how they map to the underlying SQL tables.
Global viewer
Analyse the internal data structures behind your data. Navigate global nodes, inspect subscripts and values, and understand what is really stored.
Local query cloud
Combine data from different sources in one local query — useful for comparing environments or joining data that lives in separate systems.
Script manager
Store, organise and reuse your scripts and snippets so recurring tasks are one click away instead of buried in a folder of .sql files.
WHO IT IS FOR
- InterSystems developers who want a modern, responsive alternative to the built-in tooling
- Database administrators maintaining IRIS and Caché installations
- Analysts and integrators who need reliable read access and fast exports
- Teams migrating, comparing or documenting existing InterSystems systems
GETTING STARTED
Install, add your first server connection, and you are querying within a minute. No server-side installation or configuration is required.
Questions, feature requests or feedback are always welcome, see the support link on this page.

What's new
- Version: 4.01
- Last Updated:
- Version 4.01 — a major release. 137 changes since 3.24.
NEW
- Azure SQL and Microsoft Fabric — an Azure tab that asks how you sign in: SQL login, Entra ID token, or the az login you already have.
- Encrypted connections — a TLS tab on every connection, plus an assistant that fetches the server certificate, writes the trust store and tests it. No keytool, no restart.
- Stored passwords protected by Windows DPAPI, bound to your Windows account. A copied config file no longer gives them up.
- Classify connections as Development, Test, Production or Failover, and put a read-only guard on the ones nobody should write to.
- Source code search across a whole namespace, server-side, plain text or regex — plus "Where is this used?" from any table.
IMPROVED
- Query Cloud now federates: join IRIS, PostgreSQL and a CSV folder in one statement, with filters pushed into each source.
- IRIS execution statistics in the editor — global references, disk reads and their latency — and a searchable SQL History.
- The SQL Scanner reports unindexed foreign keys on IRIS and Caché, and reads the server's own execution plans.
- Execution plans are readable text; SQL Server, PostgreSQL and DuckDB deliver them too.
FIXED
- Class operations and Terminate Process work on IRIS again.
- Excel workbooks are queryable; CSV export quotes correctly.
- Withdrawn drivers with known CVEs are removed on every start.
