VarAlign Control Tower
Ny  VarAlign Control Tower is a Windows desktop dashboard for the VarAlign variable registry. Point it at a folder, and it finds every repository underneath that has a .varmem store, imports them all into one database, and shows you the whole set side by side.

REQUIRES THE FREE VARALIGN ENGINE
Control Tower reads .varmem stores. It does not create them. The registries are written by the free, open-source VarAlign engine (Apache-2.0) and its Claude Code capture plugin, which record the variables your AI coding sessions assign as they work. If a repository has never been scanned by the engine, Control Tower will correctly report that it found nothing there. Install the engine first; Control Tower is the fleet view on top of it.

WHAT "DRIFTED" MEANS
The engine records each tracked variable's name, scope, file, line, and a hash of its value at the moment an AI session wrote it. Later, that recorded state is compared against what is actually in the repository now. A variable is "drifted" when the repository's current value no longer matches the recorded one, and "missing" when it is no longer in the file at all. Those two statuses are where silent damage hides: a value an agent quietly changed in one repository three sessions ago, or a variable that vanished in a refactor and left a stale duplicate behind somewhere else.

ONE VIEW ACROSS EVERY REPOSITORY
Scanning is recursive. Nested repositories are found and tracked as their own entries. Junctions, symlinks, hidden and system folders, and AppData are skipped, so nothing is imported twice and no scan loops. When a folder cannot be read or sits past the depth limit, the scan says so instead of silently returning a short list.

The Repositories page gives per-repository status counts and a drill-down grid of every tracked variable, filterable by status, language, or free text across names and file paths. The Analytics page covers the imported set as a whole or one repository at a time: totals for variables, repositories, files and sessions; status and origin breakdowns; variables per repository; per-language distribution; a 30-day activity line; duplicate-review verdicts; the files with the most drift; and the most recent audit events.

YOUR DATA STAYS ON YOUR MACHINE
Every import lands in a local SQLite database on your PC. There is no account, no sign-in, no cloud service, and no telemetry or usage reporting of any kind. The app opens exactly one kind of network connection, and only if you configure it yourself.

OPTIONAL POSTGRESQL FOR SHARED VISIBILITY
If you want several workstations feeding one store, enter your own PostgreSQL server in Settings and imports can also be mirrored there. Repositories are identified by source host plus path, so multiple machines can mirror into one database without colliding. This is entirely optional, off by default, and points at a server you supply. Your PostgreSQL password is encrypted at rest with Windows DPAPI under your user account, never stored in clear text.

WHICH LANGUAGES THIS COVERS
Control Tower shows whatever the VarAlign engine recorded, and treats every language the same way. The engine extracts variables from Python (.py, .pyw), JavaScript (.js, .jsx, .mjs, .cjs), TypeScript (.ts, .tsx), PowerShell (.ps1, .psm1), Shell (.sh, .bash), C# (.cs), Go (.go), Rust (.rs), Java (.java), and environment files (.env and .env.*). Files in other languages are not tracked, so they will not appear here.

READ-ONLY TOWARD YOUR REPOSITORIES
Control Tower never writes into any repository's .varmem folder. It reads schema v3 stores — the sharded variable records, review verdicts, event log, and metadata the engine writes — and tolerates damage the way the engine does: one corrupt line costs that line, not the import, and every skip is surfaced as a warning you can read.

A one-time purchase for one individual, covering the Control Tower desktop app on your own Windows PCs, with the local SQLite database and the optional connection to a PostgreSQL server you run. A seven-day free trial with full functionality is available before you buy.
