Creating your name in kanji is as easy as typing your name into the application and choosing the Japanese reading that sounds closest to how your name is pronounced.
Originally from China, kanji are used throughout Asia today, particularly in China, Japan, and Taiwan. Although more than 70,000 kanji have been computerized, this app uses about 7,000: the kanji that have been designated for everyday use in Japan plus additional kanji that have been approved in Japan for use in names. (The conversion will not use characters not used in Japan.)
It’s easy to experience the exotic written culture of Japan by creating your own original kanji name. The MeiMei database includes roughly 25,000 names that can be converted into kanji, far more than other apps that include only 100 or so popular names.

With just a tap you can change your name in a number of different ways, using kanji that have positive (or not-so-positive) meanings, feminine or masculine kanji, or kanji that are often used for names in Japan.
The use of multiple kanji to represent the same sound is one of the characteristics of the Japanese language. Each individual kanji also has its own meaning, making it possible to create a number of different variations of your name (say, Michel). Your name will be displayed with an image of an ukiyo-e print or some other traditional design that fits the type of kanji you have chosen to use.
