YfitopsBar is a lightweight tool to monitor and manage the state of the macOS Spotify client, as well as search lyrics and album artwork for the currently playing track — all from the macOS status menu and via customizable hotkeys.
Currently available features
• Automatic start and stop of the Spotify client when YfitopsBar starts or exits
• Customizable display of Spotify status and the currently playing track in the macOS status menu
• Control of Spotify via a compact mini-player embedded in the status menu
• Detachable status menu popup as a standalone mini-player panel with customizable behavior and hotkey
• Dedicated lyrics editor/viewer window with always-on-top option, customizable appearance, and hotkey
• Automatic lookup and update of missing lyrics for the currently playing track
• Quick lyrics updates via macOS clipboard and selection services
• Web search for lyrics of the current track using a customizable hotkey in the default browser
• Web search for album artwork of the current track using a customizable hotkey in the default browser
• Optional restoration of legacy media key behavior (macOS 10.13 High Sierra changed default handling to the active application instead of Spotify)
Known Issues
• Due to sandboxing limitations (Mac App Store version), Spotify cannot be controlled while displaying a modal dialog. In such cases, commands from YfitopsBar will not be delivered. If this happens, please check the Spotify application and close or respond to any open modal windows.
