Kuvaus

HeadlessUnit
Uutta  HeadlessUnit lets you use Android Auto directly on your Android device's screen, without needing a supported car head unit.

Your device must have Android Auto installed and support wireless Android Auto.

Features:
- Supports projection to the device itself, or from another device through USB or WiFi
- Android Auto stream up to 1440p@60Hz, with H.265 encoding, and automatic aspect ratio adjustment to fit device screen
- Supports Intents, so you can integrate with automation apps
- Auto day/night mode based on sunrise/sunset (requires location permission)
- A modern tech stack (Kotlin + Compose + Rust)

How to use:
- Open the app and wait for Android Auto to connect.
- Once connected, follow the instructions on screen.
- Use the mode button on the menu bar to switch connection modes.
- Use the menu button on the menu bar to access app settings.
- If the menu bar is hidden, swipe right from the upper left edge to reveal it.

How it works:
HeadlessUnit serves as a virtual head unit on your device and communicates with Android Auto locally or over USB/WiFi Direct.

Notes on Android Auto wireless projection without WiFi connection:
Android Auto requires WiFi connection to start wireless projection. To do this without WiFi connection, we need to start a VPN connection to provide virtual network in order for the projection to work.

This app uses Android's VpnService strictly to enable Android Auto wireless projection without WiFi connection. The VpnService is strictly used to provide this function and acts as the core functionality of our app, as it will not work without WiFi connection otherwise. No data is configured to route through this VPN service other than 198.18.0.0/15, which is reserved for benchmarking and testing network interconnect devices and not used, and we do not collect or share personal data.
