Opis
2023 är det 900 år sedan som Simrishamn som plats uppmärksammades första gången i skrift. Om man får tro Kungasagorna i Heimskringlan det vill säga. Sigurd Jorsalafar kom då till platsen som han benämer Svimraros, med 300 skepp i följe, Os betyder mynning och finns också i andra ortnamn som t ex Västerås (västar Aros) och Osby. Namnet Svimraros kan tolkas som ”Svimbers mynning”, det vill säga Tommarpsåns utlopp.
Simrishamn är en av Skånes minsta städer och med idag ca 7000 invånare. Som när det gäller de flesta städer kan Simrishamn visa upp perioder av uppgång och fall, perioder av pest och krigstid som minskat och plågat stadens befolkning. Här har skett ständig inflyttning och utflyttning av personer och grupper. Hit kom lübeckarna för att köpa upp sill under medeltiden. Många stannade kvar. Hit kom köpmän från hela södra Sverige för att sätta upp sina verksamheter, fiskare från Blekinge och Bohuslän och flyktingar från Östersjöländerna i perioder. Härifrån flyttade de som ville skaffa sig högre utbildningar, de som for till Amerika, Bornholm eller Tyskland för att skaffa sig ett bättre liv och de som inte fann arbete under rationaliseringstider. En stad i ständig förändring.
